Why You Aren’t Growing on Social Media. And What to Do About It.
Answer yes or no to the following questions:
Is there a style of video you create over and over again?
Do you use ‘content pillars’ to help you decide what to post?
Do you only write about some things, while other things are deemed off-limits to talk about?
Do you refrain from experimenting with new types of content because you fear they won’t ‘perform’ well?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these, you might be the one who is halting your own growth:
Having pre-determined categories or speaking points for you: content subconsciously limits you from sharing your authentic self and revealing new dimensions of your personality.
The parts of yourself you think are “undesirable” or ”unworthy” of sharing, are the parts of yourself to explore and use as inspiration for your next post on social media.
The very thing you are trying to hide or conceal could serve as a connection point between you and the people you are meant to reach. Ask yourself: Do I want people to be impressed by me? Or would I rather they feel connected to me?
Challenging yourself to explore and speak on new topics will improve your writing, video editing, and critical thinking skills. It also enhances your experience as a creator and improves the likelihood that you will stay consistent with your efforts over time. (It can be really boring to talk about the same things over and over again!)
Try not to create what you “think” people want to see. Instead, focus on documenting and discussing real-life experiences which make you feel moved, activated, and excited.
Experiment. Try new things. Share what you mean. We’re not companies, we’re people. There’s no reason to worry if something is ‘on-brand’ or not. When it’s true for you, it’s always on-brand.
