Why Some Posts Work and Others Don’t

You’ve probably had this experience before. You post something you know is good. The idea is strong. The message feels solid. You hit publish and then it barely gets any views…

It’s easy to blame the algorithm, timing, or that your ideas just wasn’t “good enough.”

But often, it’s not that your content isn’t valuable. And it’s not that you’re doing anything wrong. The issue is usually more subtle: The format might not match the message.

The way a message is packaged can completely change how it lands, even when the core message is the same.

This is why so many creators feel like their content is not good, even when that’s not the case at all!

Why Delivery Changes Everything

Most people don’t struggle with creativity or ideas. They struggle with the delivery.

A real time realization might land best as a talking head where your facial expressions are visible.

A reflective vulnerable story might resonate better as a VoiceOver video with cinematic visuals, rather than a direct-to-camera talking clip.

A great idea might not take off as a talking head or a fast-paced reel. It might need a slower pace, a text overlay, a voiceover, or even a totally different medium.

Same message. Different packaging. Different impact.

When Something Doesn’t Work, Reframe Instead of Replacing

If a post doesn’t perform, the instinct is often to abandon the idea entirely.

But instead, a useful question to ask yourself is: How could this same message be shared differently?

You can do that by:

1. Repackaging the hook.

Same message, different angle. It’ll give you fresh data and a fresh boost of confidence. A great hook comes down to these three things:

  1. Visual - Choose a first clip that is highly engaging, with big movements, bright colors, or breathtaking views. Example.

  2. Text - Add text on the screen to keep viewers engaged throughout the video. Example.

  3. Audio - Dive right into the topic. Skip the “hi’s” and the introductions. Example.

The goal is simple: make someone feel something in the first three seconds. If you can create that feeling of curiosity or anticipation within the first three seconds, you’ve done your job as a creator.

Ask yourself:

Would I watch this video all the way through? Do I feel captivated by these first three seconds?

And if not, how can I improve it?

2. Changing the format.

Instead of a talking head, what if it were a voiceover?

Instead of a voiceover, what if it were a carousel?

Instead of a carousel, what if it were a vlog?

Match format with intention. That could look like:

Want to feel like you’re talking to a friend and build trust?

→ Talking head.

Want to tell a story and create emotional connection?

→ Voiceover or vlog.

Want to teach or share insight through written content?

→ Carousel.

Want to show a relatable day in your life?

→ Vlog.

Style shifts are powerful because they separate the idea from the format. You stop thinking, “Maybe this idea wasn’t good,” and start asking, “Maybe this just needed a different container.”

The Most Powerful Question You Can Ask

One of the most helpful questions you can ask yourself in this process is “How would I frame this differently?”

If you were to restart the video from scratch, how would you share the same message in a new way?

As a story instead of a tip.

As a voiceover instead of a talking head.

As a carousel instead of a Reel.

This question moves you out of “Why didn’t this work?” and into “What else is possible?”

And that’s where growth and confidence come from.

Confidence doesn’t come from going viral.

It comes from understanding the tools and building on your experience.

“This message would land better like this.”

“This story needs a stronger hook.”

And that’s exactly what we’re going to do inside our February Posting Challenge.

Each week, we’re focusing on one style of content: talking head, voiceover, vlog, and carousel.

This is not a posting challenge just to “post more,” but to learn:

  • Why each format works

  • What it’s best used for

  • How to frame your stories and ideas in ways that actually land

If you’ve been feeling stuck or unsure why some posts hit and others don’t, this is your invitation to stop guessing and start creating with intention.

You can join us with a free trial here and be part of the challenge this February.

We can’t wait to create with you.
