How to Stay Consistent With Content Creation (Even When You Don't Feel Like It).

Did you know? There is a secret formula that will ensure you build a successful Personal Brand. It’s very simple (and yet we often overcomplicate it).

What is the magic potion? It’s sharing what you know online; over and over again. That’s it! This knowledge can be shared in the form of blog posts, social media posts, and other mediums like Instagram Stories and Tik Tok posts. All you have to do is follow this simple strategy and you will accelerate the process of personal branding tenfold.

When you first get started with content creation, it’s easier to remain consistent. After all, you’ve just started your new business or Personal Brand and you’re feeling good. You’re eager to build your audience and connect with people online. However, just like with any new habit, there is a transition curve that looks something like this:

Suddenly, blogging once a week, keeping up with your social media posts, and maintaining your own work feels like a lot to juggle. Frankly, content creation should be the last thing prioritized on the list since it doesn’t always yield immediate results. So, it moves to the backburner... but all of a sudden, you find yourself in phase no. 4. You’ve crashed and burned.

We’ve all been there, right? Maybe it’s not a matter of uninformed optimism, perhaps you’ve been at this for a while, but lately, you’ve just felt like you’re off your “A-Game” and you just don’t know what to say...

Listen, times are weird right now and change is happening all around us, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you haven’t been able to publish content as consistently as you’d like. Maybe you haven’t written a blog post recently, or you haven’t been keeping up with your Instagram posts like you normally do. There may be external factors in your life that make it difficult to stay consistent. At the same time, there may be internal factors that create a “block” deep within yourself. Either way, when you feel disconnected from your work on social media, here are some things you can do to get back on track. Let’s build that momentum back up one step at a time:

Step One: Eliminate Negative Self-Talk

You must eliminate any negative self-talk or judgement as you attempt to get your content creation flowing once again. In order to create your best work, you must be in a positive headspace. If you’re creating content from a place of turmoil, anguish, or negativity, that energy will bleed into everything that you say and do.

When we feel poorly about ourselves, we tend to think it’s a “me” thing. You may feel alone and like no one can understand what you’re going through. And yet, quite the opposite is true. When you attempt to create content in a negative space, everything you touch is affected by its energy. It no longer becomes a “me” thing, it becomes a “we” thing. This negativity diminishes the quality of your work and cuts you off from your true source of power and positive influence.

The solution: Accept yourself where you are. Performing any action in the state of acceptance means you are at peace with yourself and what you are doing. This is the most freeing place to be in, and it will bring something new and creative into this world.

Step Two: Write a List

Alright, this is exactly what I do when I am feeling out of alignment with my work. I sit down to write 10 headlines/topic ideas for my next 10 posts. This is a task that will help you ease back into the flow of content creation. Why do I like it so much? Well, it doesn’t require you to write much of anything. It’s just an opportunity for you to brainstorm and get those creative juices flowing.

After you’ve written your list, choose the headline that feels the least daunting for you to write about. Pick something easy and enjoyable. When you have a list of 10 things to choose from to write about, it will be easier to pick something and begin writing (rather than staring at a blank screen and doing nothing at all). Your headlines are the seeds you’ve planted which can become beautiful posts in the near future and get you back on track.

The solution: Write your listy-poo. Use this headline analyzer to make the process even more fun and enjoyable. Your goal is to score above 70. Try it, trust me!

Step Three: Start to Write

The hardest part is usually just starting. If you are someone who gets anxious at the thought of sitting down to write your next blog post, remember that it’s not YOU versus IT. You and that blog post are on the same team. In fact, it’s actually begging to be written. When your work is in service to others, you can be rest assured that everything around you is working to support your mission and help you bring this project to life!

The solution: Start. Tell yourself, “I’m only going to do this for five minutes,” and see what happens. Even if you only have the energy to write for a few minutes, that’s still a push in the right direction. Tomorrow, maybe you’ll write for 10.
