How to Film Yourself in Public

Does the thought of talking into your phone or being in front of the camera, especially in front others, make you feel uncomfortable?

Don't worry, I've been there. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you start filming yourself in public:

1) Be quick and understated. Release any expectations of how you think the video should turn out, and just see what happens.

2) If you’re filming yourself, use a small tripod or place your phone against a ledge. If you’re with friends, ask them for help! Most of the time, people are happy to help if you tell them what your vision is and why you’re creating this video.

3) Start small — baby steps. Feeling some level of self-consciousness is to be expected if you're new to this.

4) If it feels daunting at first, ask a friend to accompany you. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, then pick a public place that doesn’t have too many people.

5) People aren’t looking at you as much as you think they are. And if they do, it’s just a fleeting thought. Besides, people are getting more used to seeing people filming themselves in public. It’s not as uncommon anymore.

6) Remember your "why" for doing this. Creating this video has to be bigger than your fear of what other people will think of you.

Focus on your vision. When you zoom out to consider the impact of what you’re creating, suddenly it won’t seem so terrifying anymore.

And, hey, I believe in you.

If you need support, my 3-month program, Personal Brand Accelerator, is opening for enrollment next week (this only happens 2x per year).
